Historical Development
It was planned to build a metro station here from the very first projects since the time of the First Republic ( English , Czech ) , although the place around the National Theater was often considered. It was this place that was chosen according to the plan of 1970, according to which the construction was started after 7 years.
For the construction in 1977-1985, 344 million kroons were allocated. Initially, 2 exits were planned, despite this, and for one built, many historic buildings had to be demolished. In addition to the subway lobby, a small square with a modern glazed fountain was built, authored by Pavel Trnka ( Czech Pavel Trnka ) and Zbynek Kabelik ( Czech Zbyněk Kabelík ).
From May 2011 until the station was closed, a vertical elevator for wheelchairs operated for repairs.
2002 Flood
In 2002, the station was flooded due to extensive flooding , the station was resumed, only directly by the beginning of 2003.
Reconstruction
July 10, 2012 the station is closed. During the reconstruction, the lobby was demolished along with all the technical support upstairs, the escalator tunnel was reduced, the lobby was combined with the second underground floor of the Copa Centrum Národní multifunctional facility, from which several elevated floors were built with a total area of 50,000 m 2 ; in the underground part next to the lobby, a parking lot for 250 cars was placed; rebuilt the landing platform [1]
In September 2012, the station’s ground lobby was demolished, and in 2013 the station was left without lighting. After the construction of the new ground lobby and reconstruction, the station was reopened on June 27, 2014.
