History
KPSA was founded on August 31, 1975 in Baghdad on the basis of the National Liberation Front, created in the 1950s. Under the TNF, the Communists had a separate faction called the Organization of Saudi Communists . Many party members came from Shiite families.
Throughout the entire existence of the CPSU, it was in an illegal situation and was persecuted by the Saudi authorities. Large waves of repression against the party took place in 1986 and 1988.
The party maintained close international relations with other Arab Communist Parties and with the Soviet Union .
The youth organization of the CPSU was the Union of Democratic Youth - Saudi Arabia ( Ittihad al-Shabab al-Dimukrati fi al-Saudiya ), which had headquarters in Damascus ( Syria ).
Close relations with the KPSA were supported by the Federation of Workers of Saudi Arabia, the National Student Union of Saudi Arabia and the Democratic Women's League of Saudi Arabia. Since 1981 maintained relations with the Arab Socialist Party of Action .
The central organ of the party was the publication “The Way of the Workers” ( Tariq al-Qadiin ).
In the early 1990s, the party changed its name to the Democratic Union of Saudi Arabia . التجمع الديموقراطي في السعودية . Shortly afterwards (circa 1993 [1] ), the ruling regime agreed to amnesty the imprisoned communists and socialists in exchange for the dissolution of the CPSU and the Arab Socialist Party of Action. Nevertheless, there is evidence of the activities of the CPSU in the ranks of the Left Opposition of Saudi Arabia. [2] [3]
