History
On May 12, 2016, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine assigned the village the name Verkhneosykovo (named after the Osinova River or “Osykova” in Ukrainian, paired with the name of the village of Osykovo, located downstream) in the framework of the decommunization campaign in Ukraine [2] . The renaming was not recognized by the authorities of the self-proclaimed DPR [4] .
