Rugai region ( Latvian. Rugāju novads ; Lat . Ruguoju nūvods ) is an administrative-territorial unit in the east of Latvia , in the historical and cultural region of Latgale . The region consists of two volosts , the center of the region is the village of Rugaii .

The region was formed on July 1, 2009 from a part of the disbanded Balvi district .
The area of the region is 512 km² [1] . Borders on Gulbensky , Balvsky and Lubansky edges.
Population
As of January 1, 2015, the population of the region was 2,266 permanent residents [2] , as of January 1, 2010 - 2,652 people [3] .
