Angora wool

Angora rabbit

Angora wool ; Angora fiber , or Angora, is a very soft-touch wool fabric with a characteristic delicate pile, which is obtained from the hairs of the Angora rabbit , which was so named for its long hair, by analogy with the goat of the same name .

At the beginning of the 19th century , Angora wool often meant fabric obtained from the wool of angora goat. So in " ESB " Angora wool was described as follows [1] :

"Angora wool (French poil de chèvre, English mohair) is extremely thick, soft as silk, and shiny wool of the Angora goat, for the most part completely white, rarely black or gray, whose hair reaches 12-15 and even 30 cm in length ; it provides excellent material for the manufacture of various materials, such as plush , stone , twill , also goes to semi-silk materials, to shawls and is partially brought to Europe in the form of yarn."

Currently, Angora goat hair is mainly understood as mohair , but confusion with the name still arises.

The best Angora wool is produced in France , Italy and Japan ; It is used in knitwear production (mainly sweaters and children's clothing , as well as socks) both independently and in a mixture with other types of wool to increase strength.

The skins of the Levantine and Persian Angora goats, used partly in their natural color (white) for blankets, etc., and partly dyed on carpets and so on, are also called " Angora " [2] .
