The administrative center is the village of Zalesovo , located 142 km from Barnaul .
Content
Geography
Located in the north-east of the Altai Territory, it borders with the Talmen , Pervomaisk , Zarinsky districts of the region, with the Kemerovo and Novosibirsk regions. The eastern taiga part is occupied by the foothills of the Salair Ridge with numerous slopes and valleys along winding rivers.
The climate is continental. The average temperature in January is −19 ° C, July +18 ° C. Annual precipitation is up to 600 mm. The region has more than 46 lakes ranging in size from 2 to 43 hectares, the rivers Chumysh , Berd , Kamenka , Urap , Tatarka and 125 small rivers, 223 streams flow.
Soils - sod-podzolic, gray forest and leached chernozems. A considerable area is occupied by the black taiga .

Economics
The main direction of the economy is agriculture: the production of grain, milk, meat, beekeeping is developed. On the territory of the district there are a flax mill , a cheese factory , a timber industry farm, a beekeeping complex “Pritayozhny”, and Zalesovsky Nature Reserve .
Transport
The Zalesovo - Talmenka , Zalesovo - Zarinsk automobile roads, as well as the Altai - Kuzbass highway, the length of which is 73 km across the district, pass through the district.
