Sibljak is a type of Mediterranean vegetation consisting of deciduous, often drought tolerant, shrubs and stunted trees about 3-4 meters high. Distributed in the countries of the northern Mediterranean - in the south of France [1] , in the Balkans , in the mountainous Crimea , in the Caucasus .
It consists mainly of impenetrable thickets of fluffy oak ( Quercus pubescens ), rock oak ( Quercus petraea ), hawthorn ( Carpinus orientalis ), hawthorn ( Crataegus ), wild rose ( Rosa ), hold-tree ( Paliurus spina-christi ), various species Juniper ( Juniperus ) and similar plants.
Shiblak arose in the Neogene in the Ancient Mediterranean. Nowadays, it mainly grows on the site of reduced forests of foothills and low mountains.
The name shiblyak comes from the Serbo-Croatian shibak .
