Sir Henry William Sticted , KCB ( 1817 , Saint-Omer - December 10, 1875 , Surrey ) - Major General , First Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of Ontario after the formation of the Canadian Confederation (from 1867 to 1868 ).
Born in 1817 in Saint-Omer , France , in the family of Colonel 3rd Dragoon Regiment Henry Sticted. Educated in Sandhurst , in 1835 or 1836 he entered military service. He visited Afghanistan and Persia , was in the forefront of the forces of General Havelock during the liberation of Lucknow in September 1857 .
In 1864 he was promoted to major general, and in 1866 he was appointed division commander of British forces in Canada . After the formation of the Confederation in 1867, became the first lieutenant governor of Ontario, he remained in this post until 1868 . He did much for the economic development of the northern territories of the province. In 1871 he was awarded the knighthood.
In 1875, he married Maria Catherine Elizabeth Burton, sister of the famous traveler, writer and translator of Sir Richard Francis Burton . Pisted and Burton repeatedly met, although, apparently, not too sympathized with each other.
Died at Upper Norwood , Surrey , in 1875 .
