Origin of title

The street began to be built in the XVIII century . Originally called the Old Volostnaya street. It was located between the current Friedrich Engels Avenue and Kolotilova Street. In 1877, Osnova Street was annexed to it, due to which the Old Volostnaya Street lasted until Krutitskaya Street. In the same year, a pedestrian boulevard with greenery was planned on the street, and the street was named Sadovaya [1] . In 1899, the City Council tried to rename it Ekaterininskaya, but the name did not stick.

Sadovaya Street is one of the few streets of Ivanov that has preserved its pre-revolutionary name.

Architecture

The main part of the building is made up of multi-storey buildings of Soviet planning. There are monuments of architecture.

  • Dormitory of the Medical Academy - house 36. Built in 1933 in the style of constructivism . Architect C. K. Zhuk. The building consists of five buildings that form a complex three-dimensional composition [2] .
  • House I. P. Golovin - house 62/37. It is located at the intersection with Bubnov Street. Built in 1910 in the modern style for the merchant I. P. Golovin. Architect A.F. Snurilov . The rooms of the ground floor and basements, covered with beams, were intended for a shop, workshops and warehouses. The eastern wing of the house is occupied by large halls, the northern - by smaller, connected doorways along the facade. The building was used for a long time as a shop of the Krasnaya Zarya confectionery factory. Currently rented for offices.
  • The mansion of A. Belousov in the Art Nouveau style at the intersection with Poet Nozdrin Street. Built in 1911 by architect A. F. Snurilov. The house had two apartments, each of which occupied an entire floor and had a separate entrance from the eastern courtyard facade. In 2003-2006, the building was reconstructed: an attic was built on, the walls were plastered and painted.
  • House Church of the Assumption of the Mother of God in the Orthodox shelter at the St. Nicholas Shartomskom monastery [3] .

The street adjoins the building of the Polytechnic University , Chemical-Technological University , Ivanovo Regional School of Culture. At the beginning of the street there is the Regional Tuberculosis Dispensary.

Transportation

The roadway is narrowed and spaced to the edges of the street, and there is a pedestrian boulevard on the dividing strip. Green plantings between the pavement and the roadway form an alley - a favorite resting place for students and schoolchildren from nearby schools. One side of the alley goes to the monument to Fyodor Afanasyev, to the busy highway along Sheremetevsky Avenue, the other side - to the intersection with Bubnov Street.

There are no public transport lines on the street.
