The administrative center is the city of Novosokolniki .

Geography

The area is 1616 kmΒ² . The main rivers are the Nasva , the Big Udray , the Smerdel , the Small Udray. In the Vyazov volost , 4 km north of Lake Bolshaya Elm , is the source of the Great River [3] [4] .

History

The district was formed on July 24, 1927 as part of the Velikoluksky District of the Leningrad Region , since 1929 - as part of the Western Region , since 1935 - in the Kalinin Region , since 1944 - in the Velikolule Region, and finally, since 1957 - as part of the Pskov Region .

As of January 1, 2019, out of 12,580 residents of the district in urban conditions (in the city of Novosokolniki ), 56.48% of the district’s population (or 7105 people) live in rural areas - 43.52% or 5475 people [1] .

According to the 2010 census, the population of the district was 14,776 people, including 8,119 urban residents (54.95% of the total population) and 6657 rural residents (45.05%) [13] .

According to the 2002 census, there were only 274 rural settlements in the district, of which 31 people were absent, 1 to 5 people lived in 62 villages, 6 to 10 people lived in 56 villages, 11 to 25 people lived in 54 villages, 27 - from 26 to 50 people, in 24 - from 51 to 100 people, in 8 - from 101 to 200 people, in 10 - from 201 to 500 people, in 2 - from 501 to 1000 people. According to the 2010 census, 274 rural settlements were located in the district, of which 74 villages had no population, 1 to 5 people lived in 81 villages, 6 to 10 people lived in 35 villages, 11 to 25 people lived in 31 villages, at 18 - from 26 to 50 people, at 19 - from 51 to 100 people, at 8 - from 101 to 200 people, at 7 - from 201 to 500 people and in one village - Shahnikha - from 501 to 1000 people. Administrative division of Novosokolnichesky district in 2005-2015

According to the Law of the Pskov Region of March 30, 2015 No. 1508-OZ β€œOn the Transformation of Municipalities”, the Bologovskaya , Novosokolnicheskaya , Okniiyskaya and Pervomaiskaya volosts were merged into the newly formed municipality Prigorodnaya volost with the administrative center in the city of Novosokolniki ; the abolished Gorozhansky volost was also included in the Nasvinsky volost , and the abolished Runovskaya volost was included in the Maevsk volost [21] .

In the district there are two historical and architectural monuments of republican significance. The natural-landscape monuments include Chirikov Park in the Gorozhan volost and the linden alley in the village of Minkino Novosokolnicheskoy volost, created in the early XIX century.

Archeology
