Novosokolnichny district is an administrative-territorial unit ( district ) and a municipality ( municipal district ) in the south of the Pskov region of Russia .

The administrative center is the city of Novosokolniki .
Geography
The area is 1616 kmΒ² . The main rivers are the Nasva , the Big Udray , the Smerdel , the Small Udray. In the Vyazov volost , 4 km north of Lake Bolshaya Elm , is the source of the Great River [3] [4] .
History
The district was formed on July 24, 1927 as part of the Velikoluksky District of the Leningrad Region , since 1929 - as part of the Western Region , since 1935 - in the Kalinin Region , since 1944 - in the Velikolule Region, and finally, since 1957 - as part of the Pskov Region .

As of January 1, 2019, out of 12,580 residents of the district in urban conditions (in the city of Novosokolniki ), 56.48% of the districtβs population (or 7105 people) live in rural areas - 43.52% or 5475 people [1] .
According to the 2010 census, the population of the district was 14,776 people, including 8,119 urban residents (54.95% of the total population) and 6657 rural residents (45.05%) [13] .
According to the 2002 census, there were only 274 rural settlements in the district, of which 31 people were absent, 1 to 5 people lived in 62 villages, 6 to 10 people lived in 56 villages, 11 to 25 people lived in 54 villages, 27 - from 26 to 50 people, in 24 - from 51 to 100 people, in 8 - from 101 to 200 people, in 10 - from 201 to 500 people, in 2 - from 501 to 1000 people. According to the 2010 census, 274 rural settlements were located in the district, of which 74 villages had no population, 1 to 5 people lived in 81 villages, 6 to 10 people lived in 35 villages, 11 to 25 people lived in 31 villages, at 18 - from 26 to 50 people, at 19 - from 51 to 100 people, at 8 - from 101 to 200 people, at 7 - from 201 to 500 people and in one village - Shahnikha - from 501 to 1000 people. According to the Law of the Pskov Region of March 30, 2015 No. 1508-OZ βOn the Transformation of Municipalitiesβ, the Bologovskaya , Novosokolnicheskaya , Okniiyskaya and Pervomaiskaya volosts were merged into the newly formed municipality Prigorodnaya volost with the administrative center in the city of Novosokolniki ; the abolished Gorozhansky volost was also included in the Nasvinsky volost , and the abolished Runovskaya volost was included in the Maevsk volost [21] .

St. Petersburg-Vitebsk branch of the October Railway (directions " St. Petersburg - Ezerische " and " Moscow - Riga ") pass through the district, there is an Novosokolnicheskaya distance of the service of the IF-45 path.
The main for road transport in the area are the federal highway M-9 βBaltiaβ (Moscow - Volokolamsk - border with Latvia ) and the motorway of the subjects of the Russian Federation P51 ( Shimsk - Staraya Russa - Velikie Luki - Nevel ).

Attractions
In the district there are two historical and architectural monuments of republican significance. This settlement Ostry - 13-14 century, located in the Vyazov volost, and the wooden church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - the 18th and XIX century, located in Runovskoy (in the part of the former Ostrovskaya) volost. The natural-landscape monuments include Chirikov Park in the Gorozhan volost and the linden alley in the village of Minkino Novosokolnicheskoy volost, created in the early XIX century.
Archeology
On the archaeological monument near the village of Townspeople found objects of the third quarter of I thousand AD. e. - XII β XIII centuries., Although the main part dates from the X β XI centuries: 245 coins, including the Byzantine follis of Roman I, dated 920-944 years, a suspension fragment with the sign of Rurikovich [22] , beads, 45 arrowheads, scales, weights, crosshairs of the sword, objects made of glass, clay, stone, ferrous and non-ferrous metals [23] [24] .
