Luminism ( niderl. Luminisme ) - one of the artistic trends in painting.
Luminism shares an emphasis on the effects of light with impressionism. Luminism preceded Impressionism, and the artists who wrote in the Luministic style were in no way influenced by Impressionism.
Luminism is the direction in post-impressionism , in which special attention is paid to the display of light effects. One of the main representatives of this trend can be called the Belgian artist Emil Klaus , as well as his students Gustav de Smet , Fritz van den Berge , Jenny Montigny , Georges Morren , Anna de Wert , Constant Permeke and others. The early pointillist works of the Dutch by Jan Torop , Jan Slaters , Leo Gestel and Pete Mondrian were also performed in this manner.
If the works of Belgian luminist artists in their style are very close to the French impressionists, especially the paintings of Claude Monet , then their Dutch colleagues in their painting were based primarily on the works of the Fauvists : Henri Matisse , Maurice de Vlaminck , Andre Derain .
In the painting of the USA of the XIX century there was also an artistic movement called luminism .
