Bachelor (1957) Georgetown University; Ph.D. (1960), Massachusetts Institute of Technology . He taught at the University of Iowa State (1960–1961), Princeton (1961–1966), Ohio State University (1972–1992), and Boston College (1966–1972 and since 1992). Winner of the Adam Smith Award (2002). President of the International Atlantic Economic Society (2004-05).
