Soriano [1] [2] ( Spanish: Soriano ) is one of the departments of Uruguay . Located in the southwestern part of the country, it borders with the Republic of Argentina in the west (the border runs along the Uruguay River), with Rio Negro in the north, Colony in the south, and Flores in the east. The administrative center is the city of Mercedes .

Geography
Located on the Laplat Lowland . Most of the territory is occupied by savannas , in the river valleys - evergreen gallery forests , meadows and swamps .
The climate is subtropical , humid and mild. The average January temperature is 23 ° C, July - 10 ° C. Annual precipitation is from 1000 to 1500 mm.

Economics
The basis of the department’s economy is agriculture , Soriano is one of the first places in the country for the collection of wheat and flaxseed , and sunflower and corn are also grown. Cattle breeding is focused on cattle and sheep breeding . The food industry is developed [4] .
