Institute of Information Transmission Problems named after A. A. Kharkevich RAS

The main goal of the Institute is to carry out fundamental scientific research and applied research in the field of transmission, distribution, information processing and control in technical and living systems.

The main areas of scientific activity of the Institute are:

• theory of information transfer and protection ;
• mathematical theory of information and control, multicomponent random systems;
• information and communication technologies and their application in complex systems and networks;
• information processes in living systems and bioinformatics ;
• computer linguistics .

The Institute organizes annual conferences:

• Information technologies and systems - conference of young scientists and specialists of IPPI RAS;
• International Workshop on Wireless Access Flexibility - a conference dedicated to wireless networks .

The Institute has 2 academicians ( Apresyan, Yuri Derenikovich ; Sinai, Yakov Grigoryevich ), 4 corresponding members of the RAS ( Belavin, Alexander Abramovich ; Bukhstaber, Victor Matveevich ; Gayfullin, Alexander Alexandrovich ; Shkredov, Ilya Dmitrievich ), 116 doctors of science and 206 candidates sciences. Three employees of the Institute were awarded the highest prize in mathematics - awarded the Fields Gold Medal :

• 1978 - Grigory Alexandrovich Margulis ;
• 1998 - Maxim Lvovich Kontsevich ;
• 2006 - Andrei Yurievich Okunkov .

Since January 2017, the Director of the Institute is Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrei Nikolaevich Sobolevsky (he has been acting since February 2016).

The Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute is Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Vladimir Iosifovich Venets ^[2] .

Director of the IPPI RAS Andrei Sobolevsky and head of the Algebra and Number Theory Section of the IPPI RAS Mikhail Tsfasman are laureates of the French Order of the Academic Palms .

Young scientists of IPPI RAS have repeatedly won prizes at various levels ^[3] .

Laureates of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology for young scientists:

• Alexey Frolov, Evgeny Khorov - for research and development of protocols for promising wireless networks (2016) ^[4] .

Laureates of the Moscow Government Prize for Young Scientists:

• Anton Kiryanov, Artem Krasilov and Alexander Krotov in the field of information and communication technologies (2018) ^[5]
• Anton Grigoriev, Timur Khanipov and Elena Kuznetsova in the nomination "Automobile and railway transport and infrastructure" for the development and implementation of the classification system of vehicles (2015) ^[6]
• Alexander Gayfullin in the nomination “Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science” for a number of the most important discoveries in the field of algebraic topology and combinatorial geometry (2014) ^[7]
• Evgeny Khorov , Alexey Frolov and Dmitry Osipov in the nomination "Information and Communication Technologies" for the study of multiple access methods to a wireless environment that increase the reliability of real-time multimedia data delivery (2013) ^[8]

The institute employs well-known popularizers of science Mikhail Gelfand , Alexander Panchin .

In December 2018, a laboratory of wireless networks was opened at the IPPI RAS within the framework of the Megagrant of the Government of the Russian Federation. Supervisor - Ian Fuat Akildiz .

The educational structure of IPPI RAS includes:

• basic inter-faculty department of problems of information transmission and data analysis ^[9] MIPT ;
• Departments at the Higher School of Economics NRU: the basic department of IPPI RAS at the Faculty of Mathematics and the Department of Modeling Technologies for Complex Systems (OPMiI);
• Educational and Scientific Center (UC) - “Bioinformatics” at Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosov .

The postgraduate study has been working at the IPPI RAS since its foundation and existed even when the institute was a laboratory for the development of scientific problems of wire communication. During this time, several hundred candidates of sciences were prepared who work in various regions of our country and abroad.

The training of scientific and pedagogical personnel for postgraduate programs is carried out at the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of the Russian Academy of Sciences under the License of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. In 2019, according to the results of the accreditation examination of Rosobrnadzor ^[10], postgraduate programs have state accreditation ^[11] in the following areas and profiles :
