Career

Club

Shola Ameobi moved to English Newcastle upon Tyne at the age of five. He started playing football for the Walker Central Boys Club, where he was spotted by Newcastle United scouts at the age of 13. July 1, 1995 he was signed by the club academy. He progressed in the youth squad, and on October 11, 1998 he made his debut for the reserve team in the match against Chelsea. Shola played his first game for the main team only two years later, on September 9, 2000 in a home game against Chelsea. In his debut season, Shola appeared on the field in 22 matches, replacing the injured Alan Shearer and Karl Kort.

In the 2002/03 Champions League draw, Ameobi was memorable, equalizing his score at the Nou Camp in the match against Barcelona , which ended in a 1: 3 defeat, and scored two goals scored against Bayer Leverkusen. The match ended in a 3-1 victory.

Shola did not show a stable game and, not being a productive goalie, he spent most of his matches as a substitute. At the end of the 2005/06 season, due to injuries chasing the team, Ameobi got a regular place in the starting lineup and scored six goals in his last 12 Premier League games.

In 2006, during the Intertoto Cup, Ameobi scored a double against the Norwegian Lillestrom .

During the 2006/07 season, Ameobi needed hip surgery. The injury did not give him rest in the previous season. But the epidemic of injuries among the club hitters then forced him to postpone surgery until better times. Ultimately, Glenn Raeder was forced to send Shola to the operating table two months before the opening of the winter transfer window , after an away goalless match against Manchester City . Ameobi retired before the end of the season, having played 12 matches for the team and scoring 5 goals.

Ameobi and the Newcastle Medical Team reported that his hip surgery in the United States was a success, and that the club’s doctors and medical staff will work to further his recovery. It was initially believed that he would be ready to play by the beginning of next season. But the recovery process progressed rapidly, and Ameobi returned to the field in the last three remaining games of the season.

On May 23, 2014, it was announced that the contract with Shola was not renewed, as a result of which he left the club after a 14-year career for “forty”.

July 11, 2014 signed a contract with the club of the first league of the championship of Turkey " Gaziantep BB ".

Team

Born in Nigeria , Ameobi, played for the England youth team for three years, scoring seven goals between 2000 and 2003. According to this indicator, it occupies the 8th place among the scorers in the entire history of the national team. In 2012, he first received a call to the national team of Nigeria .
