Features

HAT-P-2 belongs to the class of dwarfs of the main sequence . Its mass and radius are equivalent to 1.29 and 1.47 solar, respectively. [1] A star is noticeably brighter than our daylight: its luminosity is about 280% of the sun. The age of the star is estimated at approximately 2.6 billion years.

Planet System

Comparative sizes of HAT-P-2 b and Jupiter.

In 2007, a team of astronomers working as part of the HATNet project announced the discovery [1] of the planet HAT-P-2 b in the system. This is a very massive gas giant : having dimensions almost like that of Jupiter , HAT-P-2 b exceeds Jupiter by weight more than 8 times. The planet turns very close to the parent star, so the upper layers of its atmosphere must be heated to such an extent that they evaporate into outer space. The discovery was made by the transit method .
