Features

In its characteristics, XO-5 resembles our Sun : it is the same yellow dwarf of the main sequence with almost the same mass and size. [1] The surface temperature of the star is slightly colder than our daylight - 5510 degrees Kelvin . The age of XO-5 is estimated at 8 and a half billion years.

When observing, XO-5 is randomly superimposed on a plume of atomic hydrogen emitted by galaxies NGC 2444 / NGC 2445 ( Arp 143 ) - objects farther away than the star under consideration.

Planet System

Comparative dimensions of XO-5 b and Jupiter.

In 2008, a team of astronomers working with the XO telescope announced the discovery [1] of the planet XO-5 b in the system. This is a typical hot Jupiter circulating at a distance of only 0.04 a. e. from the parent star and making a complete revolution around it in 4 days. In terms of mass and size, the planet is practically no different from Jupiter . The discovery was made by the transit method .
