Chart Features
Initially, the song was recorded for the soundtrack to the film Eddie Murphy Boomerang , the song (the main theme of which is parting when a man does not want his beloved woman to leave him) topped the American chart for 13 weeks from August 15 to November 7, 1992 , setting a new record for stay on the chart. The previous record of 11 weeks belonged to Elvis Presley's song “ Hound Dog ” / “ Don't Be Cruel ”, and was not surpassed for 36 years.
However, two weeks later, “End of the Road” left first place, losing to Whitney Houston 's song “ I Will Always Love You ”, which remained at the top of the chart for 14 weeks, one week more than “End of the Road”. However, the band’s next single, “ I'll Make Love to You ”, will hit Houston's record, and the 1995 Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey joint song “ One Sweet Day ” will set a new record - 16 consecutive weeks at the top of the chart.
