Biography
Representative of the princely family of the Sontsev-Zasekins . He began his service in 1689 at the court of Tsarina Praskovya Fedorovna with the rank of steward . Later he took part in the Azov campaigns , in 1698 he participated in the battle at the Resurrection Monastery .
In April 1700 he was taken into the infantry system by General A. M. Golovin , before going to Narva he entered the division of A. I. Repnin , promoted to assignment and appointed quartermaster in the Butyrsky regiment . In the same year he was promoted to captain, commanded a company during the conquest of Ingermanland (1702–03): he fought at Noteburg , Nyenschanz and on the Sestra River .
In 1704 , already in the rank of major of his regiment, he participated in the siege and capture of Narva , and further participated in all campaigns. June 29, 1706, on the day of his namesake, Peter I promoted him to lieutenant colonel of the Butyrsky regiment with the performance of the post of commander of the regiment. After the distinction in the Battle of Poltava (1709), Peter was approved by the rank of colonel and commander of the Butyrsky regiment. He remained the regiment commander until the end of the Northern War .
On January 1, 1726, Ivan Vasilievich Sontsov-Zasekin was promoted to major general [1] .
