Biography
At an early age, Magdalena Kim became a Catholic. She wanted to give herself completely to God, however, her parents, who were not Christians, did not understand the intentions of their daughter and wanted to marry her. The new family of the girl turned out to be of the Roman Catholic faith. Magdalena wanted to take a more active part in the life of the local Catholic community and therefore preached Catholicism among her neighbors. During the start of the persecution of Catholics in Korea (September 1836), Magdalena Kim was arrested along with a group of believers. For her beliefs, she was in prison for three years. May 24, 1839 the girl was executed in Seoul with a group of believers of 9 people.
Magdalena Kim was beatified on July 5, 1925 by Pope Pius XI and canonized on May 6, 1984 by Pope John Paul II along with a group of 103 Korean martyrs .
