Performs at the meetings of veterans of the 20th Grenadier Division of the Waffen SS . [1] .
As a deputy of the Riigikogu, for seven years, he unsuccessfully fought for the official recognition of veterans of the 20th Estonian division of Waffen SS by Estonian freedom fighters. [2]
On July 30, 2011, at the meeting of the veterans of the 20th division of the Waffen SS to the question of the correspondent, whether neo-Nazis are not born around his point of view on history, Weliste replied:
“ In Estonia, among the Estonians there was no Nazi ideology either in the war, neither after it, nor now. Estonians are not inclined to such an ideology [3] . "
Condemnation of Nazism
On July 30, 2011, at the traditional rally of veterans of the 20th division, the Waffen SS gave a negative assessment of the actions of Nazi Germany:
“ And I don’t want to say that enemy number 2, Hitler’s Germany, is fundamentally better. They are absolutely equal to each other bastard predators [3] . "
“ We know very well how many of our people have destroyed our people. Both occupiers destroyed our people, but number one occupier [4] destroyed much more. These are cruel facts. I don’t say what would happen if the Germans won this war, we can speculate about it as much as we can, which is being done now [3] . "
