The bird is 75 to 91 cm long. The plumage is black and white, the beak is red. Face skin - orange without yellow circles around the eyes. The plumage of young and adult birds outside the breeding season is more modest.
This stork is common in Borneo , Sumatra , the Mentawai Islands in southern Thailand , western Malaysia and Brunei . He lives in pristine freshwater biotopes with an adjacent low-lying forest, as well as on rivers and floodplains.
The stork leads a solitary lifestyle, sometimes found in small groups. He feeds primarily on fish, along with this, probably, amphibians, small reptiles and insects. Reproduction biology has been little studied. A bird builds its nests from branches on trees. The nests have a diameter of 0.5 meters and a height of about 15 cm. Storks lay 2 eggs. Young birds have white downy plumage, become wing after 45 days.
