Wader has been an important figure in German left circles since 1970, in many of his songs he has protested against the oppression of the proletariat in Europe and Latin America. In addition to his own, Wader performed songs by other authors, including the equally famous singer, actor and like-minded Ernst Bush . In 1977 - 1991 was a member of the German Communist Party .
Over time, Vader’s political repertoire gave way to the lyrical. So, in 1996, he recorded an album with the songs of Karl Michael Belman , and the next year - an album of songs by Franz Schubert .
