Origins and Pre-War Service

Descended from hereditary nobles of the St. Petersburg province. A graduate of the Polotsk Cadet Corps, the 1st Pavlovsky Military School (1888), the Academy of the General Staff (1896). He began to serve in 1888 with the rank of second lieutenant . He served in the 130th Kherson Regiment . In 1900 he was promoted to captain . From May 1901 he served as assistant inspector of classes of the Pskov Cadet Corps. In 1903 - the lieutenant colonel . Since August 1906 - Inspector classes Vladikavkaz cadet corps. In 1907 he was promoted to colonel . From September 13, 1910, he served as an inspector of classes of the Pskov Cadet Corps.

Participation in the Civil War

September 5, 1918 entered as a junior officer in the 3rd battery of the 1st Kazan Infantry Artillery Division in the People's Army of the Samara Komuch .

Starting January 30, 1919, he was in the reserve of the Omsk Military District officers of the Russian Army Admiral Kolchak. In March 1919, he served as assistant chief of the 13th Kazan Rifle Division, was approved in this position on June 14, 1919.
