Biography

Family

The father of gymnast Farhat Mustafin was the bronze medalist of the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal in Greco-Roman wrestling , as well as a coach at the CSKA sports school. Aliya's mother, Elena Anatolyevna Mustafina (maiden name Kuznetsova [7] [8] ), is a physics teacher [9] . Aliya's younger sister, Naila Mustafina [10], also practices gymnastics [11] and is a master of sports [12] , but after an injury [13] left professional sport, participating in amateur competitions [14] . The maternal grandmother and grandfather were from Volkov, Yegoryevsky District, Moscow Region [8] , and the ancestors along the paternal line came from the village of Maloye Rybushkino, Krasnooktyabrsky District, Nizhny Novgorod Region [15] .

Career start

At six, his father brought Aliya to the sports section [9] . Alia won one after the other children's competitions, then junior: she won 5 gold medals at the III Sports Contest. But after a while she left the training: due to the lack of mutual understanding, Aliya came into conflict with her trainer Dina Kamalova [11] and did not come to the hall [13] [16] . After all, Aliya returned, but began to train with Alexander Alexandrov , with whom she had a relationship of trust [17] .

Junior professional career

In September 2007, Aliya performed at the Junior International unofficial Junior World Championships in Yokohama , where she won 5 silver medals in the absolute primacy and individual all-around events, losing only to American gold-won [18] .

In the 2008 Clermont-Ferrand French Junior European Championships in gymnastics Mustafina, along with Tatyana Nabiyeva , Anna Dementyeva , Tatyana Solovyova and Anastasia Novikova, took first place in the team tournament, gaining 180.625 points. More than 10 points to Russian women have conceded to the French who won silver. Adult career 2009-2013

In the Russian Championship in 2009 in the women's all-around, Aliya won gold, ahead of Ksenia Semyonov and Tatyana Nabiyeva. The second gold medal was won by an athlete in the Moscow team, in which , Elena Zamolodchikova , Anna Myzdrikova , Elena Syrnikova and Maria Chibiskova played . At the Cup of Russia, Alia won a victory in the all-around. Competitions were qualifying for the World Cup, but the athlete could not take part in them, as she had not yet turned 16, which, according to the rules of the International Federation of Gymnastics, prevents participation in official international competitions [20] .

At the World Gymnasium in Qatari Doha, the Russian woman won five gold medals, winning the all-around tournament, as part of a team (Dementieva, Musina, Nabiyeva, Sviridova ), in free exercises, as well as in exercises on the balance beam and bars. In addition, in the asset Mustafina silver in the vault [21] .

In 2010, the first start of the athlete after a long break associated with injury, was the fourth stage of the World Cup [22] , where she showed the second result in an exercise on the beam and 4th on the uneven bars.

The next start for Alia was the 2010 European Championships in Birmingham , where she, along with Ksenia Semyonova, Anna Myzdrikova, Ekaterina Kurbatova , Tatyana Nabiyeva, won gold with 169,700 points [23] and twice won the silver medal: in an exercise on the uneven bars, receiving 15,050 points and in an exercise on a log with a sum of 14.375 points [24] .

In preparation for the World Championships in Rotterdam, the Russian team took part in the Japan Open Cup. Aliya, Tatyana Nabiyeva , Anna Dementieva , Ramilya Musina and Ksenia Afanasyev beat their closest rivals - the gymnasts of Japan - by four points (173.850 and 169.850, respectively [25] ). In the all-around, Aliya showed the third result (57,100 points) [26] .

At the Russian Cup in Chelyabinsk, Aliya won the all-around final with a score of 62.271 points, outperforming silver medalist Ksenia Afanasyev by 3.597 points [27] , winning the floor exercises and bars [28] , becoming the second in the vault, on the balance beam - the third [29] .

According to the results of performances during the season and model workouts at the Lake Round , she joined the team for the 2010 World Cup , where she planned to win medals on the uneven bars, in the vault and in the all-around. The leaders of the Russian national team filed a protest with the Appeals Jury of the International Gymnastics Federation [33] , but it was rejected [34] . As a result, Aliya, the debutant of the championship, won the largest number of medals in the championship - 5 (2 gold and 3 silver), which allowed the Russian team to take the second team place after China [35] . Dmitry Medvedev congratulated Aliya on his victory at the World Championships [36] .

The first start in 2011 for Alia was a performance at the World Cup in Jacksonville , where she won silver in the all-around, losing to American Jordin Wieber 0.068 points [37] .

In preparation for the European Championships, she also performed at the World Cup in Paris , where she excelled in 3 types of all-around - a vault, an exercise on uneven bars and a balance beam. Thanks to three victories of Mustafina, the Russians showed the best result in the team event [38] .

On April 8, 2011, at the European Championships, Aliya injured her leg in the very first form of the final competitions in all-around - when landing after performing a vault. Due to a long rehabilitation, the athlete missed the World Cup , and began training 3 months after the injury [43] . Elizabeth Twiddle , who had been injured several times in her career, noted that it was amazing to her how quickly the gymnast recovered from a severe injury, adding that she was worried about her [44] . The coach of the national team Andrei Rodionenko believed that the fear for his leg would remain for the rest of his life, which would prevent the gymnast from performing at the same level further [45] . 2012 Olympic Games

In preparation for the summer Olympics, Aliya participated in the European Championship [47] , as well as in the Russian Championship and Cup . At the Olympic Games in London [46], Mustafina qualified for the final both in individual competitions (in all-round, as well as in uneven bars and floor exercises), and as part of the Russian national team in the team championship. Together with compatriots, Aliya won silver in the team all-around [48] [49] . Her teammates on the team were Victoria Komova , Anastasia Grishina , Ksenia Afanasyeva and Maria Paseka . In the final of the team all-around improved her qualifying result. Aliya also won the bronze in the individual all-around in the hardest fight [50] . With exactly the same number of points, the Russian woman received the third place in terms of an additional indicator - the sum of points in three disciplines out of four, without taking into account the points on the worst shell [51] . Aliya did not make the element that caused the injury - "2.5 screws Yurchenko" [52] . In competitions on uneven bars, Aliya won the Olympic gold medal, scoring 16.133 points [53] [54] . In the XXI century it was the first Russian "gold" at the Olympic Games in this sport [55] . Vladimir Putin [56] , sports minister Vitaly Mutko [57] [58] and President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov [59] congratulated the Olympic champion. Second Olympic Cycle

In an interview after the Games, Aliya stated that she was not going to give up gymnastics and wanted to attend the next Olympics in Rio de Janeiro [64] [68] . Universiade 2013

A week before the competition, Mustafina had a severe catarrhal disease: “Aliya was not injured, she just had to be examined. Despite this, the gymnast in the team won a gold medal with a total of 175,500 points, became the winner of the Universiade in the individual all-around, despite falling on the beam, scored 57,900 points [72] . Aliya won the competition on uneven bars with a score of 15,200 points, also took second place in the exercises on a log with a sum of 14,525 points [73] .

2013 World Championships

The Russian women's team arrived in Antwerp in a weakened lineup. Because of injuries, Olympic medalists did not arrive: Ksenia Afanasyeva, Maria Paseka and Anastasia Grishina [74] . Instead, Victoria Komova trainers said Anna Rodionova. In addition to Rodionova Russia, Aliya represented the all-around. It was she who was assigned the role of one of the contenders for victory. In qualifying, Mustafina showed only the 5th result. On the final day of multiathlon, Mustafina was in fourth position, but after doing the floor exercises, Aliya held her position and won the bronze with a score of 58, 856 points [75] . In the final on individual projectiles, in exercises on uneven bars, became the bronze medalist of the World Championship in the uneven bars performance with a score of 15.033. Mustafina on the final day of the World Cup brought the Russian team the only gold. Alia won the balance exercise with a score of 14,900 points [76] . 2014

At the end of last season, Aliya Mustafina was going to leave the sport. “At the end of last year, she came up to me and said that she was very tired and wanted to leave the gymnastics,” recalls Andrei Rodionenko. - And I understand her. Last season, she successfully performed at the April European Championships in Moscow, and in the summer at the Universiade in Kazan. In the fall, she managed to win gold and bronze medals at the World Championships in Belgium ” [78] . The management team gave the gymnast a little rest (about a month). In February, the gymnast continued to train and prepare for the Russian Championship .

At the European Championship 2014 , which was held in Sofia, Alia won a bronze medal in the team and in the exercises on the beam. She also took the second place in the parallel exercises with a score of 15.266, losing the first place to Rebbeke Downey [79] . In mid-June, she underwent ankle surgery in Germany, and was undergoing rehabilitation for about a month.

In August 2014, she won the individual all-around competition in the Cup of Russia , held in Penza [80] .

Since December 2014 he has been training under the guidance of coach Sergey Starkin [81] . Also at the end of December, the gymnast underwent a back treatment in Germany and, upon returning to Russia, continued the drug treatment [82] .

World Championships

The women's national team of Russia came to the competition in the updated composition. Mustafina won bronze in team competitions and took fourth place in the individual all-around (57.915 points). As it turned out, the gymnast performed with temperature. On the floor exercise, Mustafina sat on the carpet, losing her balance. [83] Alia also won two bronze medals on the balance beam and floor exercises on the last day of the World Cup. At the last round, the gymnast increased her base cost and called her risk justified. [84] After the World Cup, the gymnast told that she felt tired after the Games, therefore, taking a rest for 1.5 months after the World Cup 2013 and after surgery in Germany on the ankle in June 2014, did not have time to increase the base cost. 2015

In February, she said that she would miss the Russian and European Championships because of the recovery, she would be preparing for the I European Games , the Universiade 2015, the qualifying World Championship 2015 [86] . At the European Games became the champion in the team and the absolute championships, as well as on uneven bars, took also a silver medal in the floor exercise.

2016 year

Aliya is included in the Russian national team's application for the 2016 Olympic Games. She won silver medals in the team championship in artistic gymnastics, a bronze medal in the individual championship, and won the title of champion in unequal-high uneven bars for the second time in a row.

Alia said she would take a two-year pause after the Games, and then resume training to prepare for participation in the Tokyo Olympics.

2017 year

Aliya decided to resume training from September 3, 2017 to prepare for the 2018 European Championship [87] .

Character

Старший тренер сборной считает, что, несмотря на трудный характер, у олимпийской чемпионки есть важное качество для любого спортсмена: она может в нужный момент собраться [88] . Тренер спортсменки Александр Александров же утверждает, что у всех чемпионов сложный характер [9] , при этом он не любит покладистых [13] . Personal life
