Appearance History
The name of the song - “Ave Satani” - in Latin suggests a contrast to the famous glorification “Ave Christi”.
In an interview [2] Jerry Goldsmith said that the main idea was to create a satanic version of Gregorian singing . This idea came to him during a conversation with the regent of the London choir who helped him. Jerry Goldsmith decided to create something like a black mass , contrasting it with the Latin mass . To implement this idea, they, along with the choir regent, took the Latin Mass as the basis and inverted appeals to God and saints to appeals to Satan.
Versions
The song was recorded and performed by various musicians, sometimes with changes in the text. Among them [3] :
- Fantômas .
- Silvio Tulio .
- Gregorian .
- Dee Snyder .
- Genocide Organ .
The meaning of the Latin expressions used in the song
- Sanguis Bibimus (“ We Drink Blood ”).
- Corpus Edimus (“ We Taste the Body ”).
- Tolle Corpus Satani! (“ Revive the body of Satan! ”).
- Ave! (" Hello! ").
- Ave, Ave! Versus Christus! (" Hello, hello! Antichrist ! ").
- Ave Satani! (" Hello, Satan! ").
It is worth noting that the lyrics made grammatical errors. So, instead of "sanguis" should be "sanguinem", instead of "ave satani" - "ave satana (s)", instead of "corpus satani" - "corpus satanae", instead of "versus Christus" should be "antichriste", although this may mean “enemy of Christ” or “opponent of Christ” (in this case, however, there should be “verse Christi” in the vocative case) and instead of “tolle corpus” should be “elevate corpus” .
