Biography
John Gualbert was born in 995 in Tavarnella Val di Pesa , near Florence, in an aristocratic patrician family. According to legend, having received a good education, John Gualbert wanted to live a simple life. After his brother was killed, he wanted revenge on the killer. Meeting with the killer influenced his later life. Having caught the killer, he realized the horror of revenge and, falling to his knees, began to ask God for forgiveness. John Gualbert entered the Benedictine Abbey of San Miniato to pray there for repentance. After some time, he left the Benedictine monastery and in 1038 founded a new monastery, which became the basis of the new monastic order of the Wallombrozians .
John Gualbert was known for his struggle with episcopal simony , charity work. His relative was another saint - Peter the Fire . John died July 12, 1073 at the Abbey of St. Michael the Archangel .
