He studied chess from the age of 7 with the Honored Coach of the USSR Vladimir Zak . In 1958-1960 he played at the youth championships of Russia as part of the Leningrad team. Master of Sports of the USSR (1965).
In 1966, as part of a student team, he became the world champion. Member of two finals of the championship of the USSR. Since 1969 he has been working as a chess coach. He was awarded the badge "Excellent physical education and sport."
