Surgeon Nikolai Pirogov (train)

The surgeon Nikolai Pirogov train was formed by order of Russian Railways as part of the development of a national health care program and is intended to provide medical services to residents of regions remote from the center of the country ( Far North , Far East , Siberia ). The creation of this train cost Russian Railways $ 2 million. The train was commissioned in February 2005 . On June 17, 2005, the train set off on its first flight ^[2] .

During 2005, the train visited 28 stations of the Northern Railway, for a total of about 8500 people, including 1800 railway workers, 5570 pensioners and veterans of the SZD, 460 family members of railway workers and 595 local residents who are not related to railway ^{[ 3]} .

In 2007, the mobile consultative and diagnostic center “Surgeon Nikolai Pirogov” made 11 visits to 41 stations, where more than 9900 people received advice ^[4] .

In 2008, the train "Surgeon Nikolai Pirogov" made 10 trips. 8340 people turned to doctors for help ^[5] .

In 2009, the train made 9 trips. 7579 people turned to doctors for help ^[6] .

In 2010, more than 9,000 people used the services of the surgeon Nikolai Pirogov train ^[7] .

At the beginning of 2012, the train made more than 60 flights, during which more than 51 thousand railway workers, their families and the territorial population were served ^[8] .

The medical train consists of 8 modernized cars :

• 6 cars with medical rooms and equipment
• a car equipped with a diesel generator for autonomous power supply
• wagon for living and resting medical staff working on a rotational basis. It has 11 double compartments with built-in furniture and refrigerators, household appliances, a shower, and toilet complexes.

Satellite communication equipment of the train allows remote video consultation of patients with specialists from leading medical centers of the country, with specialists from the central hospitals of Russian Railways and the Road Clinical Hospital in Yaroslavl ^[9] .

The train is equipped with a computer network that connects all workstations into a single network and is able to work offline for 7 days. The cars are shielded to exclude the influence of external factors (electromagnetic field, temperature changes, mechanical vibration) that affect the operation of medical equipment ^[10] .
