Biography
It is likely that Flavius Severin was of Italian origin, as evidenced by one inscription [1] .
As Sidonius Apollinaris [2] reported, Severin was in several positions under the emperor Avit , and then under the emperor Majorian participated in a campaign against the Visigoths in Gaul in 458 . Since Majorian wanted to please the aristocracy in Italy and Gaul, he chose Severin as consul in 461 . His colleague in the East was Flavius Dagalife . At the feast in Arelatat described by Sidonius, Severin was the second most important man after the emperor.
