He graduated from the Liege Conservatory ( 1888 ) in the class of Rodolph Massard, nephew of the famous Lambert Massard . In 1887 he debuted as a soloist. In 1892 - 1897 led an amateur orchestra in Liege. From 1894 to the end of his life, he headed the well-known string quartet in the city, who performed, in particular, the premiere of the first quartet of Joseph Jongen on March 6, 1895. In 1900 - 1906 led the choir in Malmedy , from 1910 until the end of his life headed the city symphony orchestra.
In 1898 - 1932 He taught at the Liege Conservatory, since 1909 a professor - educated, according to the calculations of his biographer Stefan Dado, 74 students, of whom Ector Klokers was the most creatively close to Charlier himself.
To date, Charlier is renowned, first of all, as the author of the rather decisive editorial board of the so-called Chaconne Vitali , who significantly increased the technical complexity of both the violin and the keyboard parts [2] . The transcription of Charlier was published in 1910 by Breitkopf & Härtel ; in 1921 , the editorship of Leopold Auer , which was transcribed by Charlier, appeared in New York, about which Charlier unsuccessfully protested, demanding that the work of Auer was not sufficiently independent. In addition, in 1933 , Charlier orchestra chakona.
