Salman Magomedrasulovich Babaev (b. September 1, 1955 [1] , Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic [2] ) - Russian manager, vice president of Russian Railways for commercial activities from 2010 to 2017 [3] [4] .

Biography

In 1978 he graduated from the Khabarovsk Institute of Railway Engineers with a degree in Railway Engineering for Railway Operations [1] .

After graduation, he began his career at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur railway station of the Far Eastern Railway , working as an assistant to the train compiler [1] .

Babaev worked on the Far Eastern Railway for about 10 years, passing through the posts of station duty , station and train dispatcher [1] . In 1980-1982, Babaev headed the Komsomolsk-Sortirovochny station, and then the Khabarovsk-2 station. In 1987, he was appointed head of the Urgalsky branch of the Baikal-Amur Railway [1] .

Babaev spent 10 years on the construction of the Baikal-Amur Railway and went down in history as her last boss. In 1997, BAM was divided between the East Siberian and Far Eastern railways. Almost a year after this event, Babaev worked as first deputy head of the Far Eastern Railway, and then was transferred to the South - to the North Caucasian Railway . In 1999, Babaev was appointed Deputy Head of the Moscow Railway . In 2002, he headed the Center for Corporate Transport Services at the Ministry of Railways of Russia. In the same year, he headed the Volga Railway [6] . In 2003-2007, he worked in the central office of Russian Railways as a vice president.

After a subsidiary company for freight transportation was separated from Russian Railways in the process of reforming, Babaev became its general director.

Since 2010 - Vice President of Russian Railways for commercial activities. In May 2017, he left the Russian Railways of his own free will. This happened after the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation established that the top manager lobbied the interests of the business of his sons, personally made decisions related to the conclusion of contracts in order to enrich them, as members of the board of directors of a commercial organization and its ultimate beneficiaries [7] .

On March 5, 2019 he was elected a member of the board of directors of the Lokomotiv football club [5] .

For many years he worked under the leadership of the first and last Minister of Railways of the Russian Federation and then he was close friends, visited the stadium, and jointly engaged in veteran projects with Gennady Fadeev [8] .

Awards and Achievements

Babaev was awarded the title “Honored Transport Worker of the Russian Federation”. He was awarded the order “Badge of Honor” , the commemorative medal “XXX years of the Baikal-Amur Railway”, the badges “For excellent work in railway transport”, “ Honorary Railway Worker ”, “ Honorary Citizen of the city of Tynda ” [9] .

In the ranking of top managers - 2010, the Kommersant newspaper took fifth place in the Transport nomination [10] .

Family

Salman Babaev is married with four children (including two daughters) and five grandchildren. Sons graduated from railway institutes, worked in railway transport, were engaged in business [2] .
