Club career

Heart of Midlothian

Wallace is a graduate of the Scottish club Hart of Midlothian .

On July 1, 2004, Lee signed with his “hearts” his first professional contract [2] .

Wallace's debut in the first Hearts team took place on February 5, 2005 - on that day, as part of the Scottish Cup, the Edinburghs met with Kilmarnock [3] . Three days later, in a replay of the fight against the Killie, Lee opened the scoring for his goals for the Heart of Midlotian. The ball turned out to be very beautiful - noting that the Kilmarnock goalkeeper, Alan Combi , went far out of the goal, Wallace hit with an “parachute” from about 70 meters, throwing the ball over the goalkeeper [4] .

In the summer of 2006, press reports appeared that the young defender would soon leave Edinburgh and join the ranks of Dundee United . However, the leadership of the "hearts" stopped these gossips, saying that it was not going to sell Wallace "for no money" [5] . A month later, Lee signed a new 5-year cooperation agreement with the Heart of Midlothian. [6]

According to the results of the 2008/09 season, Edinburgh club fans recognized the young defender as “Player of the Year”. Earlier, in the month of February, Wallace won the Scottish Premier League Young Player of the Month Award [7] .

On September 7, 2010, defending the colors of the Scottish national team in the qualifying match for the 2012 European Championship against Liechtenstein , Lee received a severe injury - a rupture of the cruciate ligaments of the knee [8] . In an official statement from the Hart of Midlotian press service, it was said that treatment would take from six to nine months [9] . For the first time after this damage, Wallace appeared on the field on January 18, 2011, when the “hearts” met with the “Kilmarnock” [10] .

In just seven years spent in the Heart of Midlothian, Wallace played 160 matches and scored four goals [11] .

Rangers

On June 22, 2011, the Hearts turned down an offer of £ 300,000 for their vice captain made by the Scottish football grandee of the Glasgow Rangers club [12] . A week later, the Jersey returned with an increased transfer rate of one million pounds, but they were again waiting for the Edinburgh refusal [13] . On June 30, at a special press conference, representatives of the "hearts" announced that they were ready to part with Wallace, but only for an amount not less than three million pounds [14] . At the same time, the English Wolverhampton Wanderers expressed their interest in Lee, but the wolves never reached concrete suggestions [15] [16] .

On July 21, Hart of Midlothian agreed to sell Wallace to the Rangers for a half million pounds. On the same day, Lee arrived at Ibroks and, after successfully undergoing a medical examination, signed a five-year contract with the Glasgowers [12] [17] . On July 26, having completed a full match against the Swedish Malmö as part of the Champions League third qualifying round, Wallace made his debut in the first roster of the Jersey [18] . On December 24 of that year, the defender scored his first goal for the Rangers, hitting the gate of St. Mirren . Nevertheless, his team lost in this fight with a score of 1: 2 [19] .
