Club career
Martin began his career in the Polish club Rodlo Gurniki from Bytom . However, after moving with his family to Germany, he began to advocate for the “Blau-Weiss Post” from Recklinghausen , and later - for “Recklinghausen”.
The first professional club of Martin was the “ Borussia ” from Mönchengladbach, for which he played for six years. Max debuted for Borussia in the first round of the 1989/90 season in a match against Kaiserslautern . In that meeting, he went into the starting lineup and spent on the field all 90 minutes [1] . The first four meetings of that season, Martin spent at the base, then went to the bench. During the season, he spent 11 games, despite the competition in the composition with Igor Belanov , Oliver Bierhoff and Christoph Buddha [2] .
The following season, Martin scored with a goal, which was for him the first on a professional level. This happened in the match of the sixth round against Frankfurt . In total, in the 1990/91 season, Martin played 30 games in which he scored 7 goals, becoming the team's third scorer [3] .
Martin achieved the biggest success with Borussia in 1995, winning the German Cup . However, he did not take part in the final meeting, as he lost his place in the first team during the season, losing the competition to Martin Dalin and Heiko Herrlich [4] .
Due to the circumstances, Max decided to change the club. In the summer of 1995, Martin signed a contract with Schalke 04 . In the first two seasons, Max was the team's top scorer [5] [6] . He spoke on the edge of the attack with Jüri Mulder . As part of Schalke, he achieved a major career success - he won the UEFA Cup in 1997.
The next two years, Max spent less successfully. In this regard, in 1999 he moved to the " Munich 1860 ". In the new team, he twice became the top scorer of the national championship. But in the 2002/03 season he gave way to the main forward of the team, Benjamin Laut , who was 13 years younger than him. Because of the loss of a place in the composition, Martin moved to the “ Ganza ” [7] . In it, he spent one season, becoming the team's top scorer. At the end of the 2003/04 season, he ended his career.
Germany squad
In connection with the leadership of Martin in the list of scorers in the Bundesliga , the media demanded his presence in the main team of the country . On April 17, 2002, Max came on as a substitute for Torsten Frings in the match against Argentina and spent only 8 minutes on the field. However, despite Martin's further success in the championship, the German coach did not include him in the application for the 2002 World Cup . The footballer was offered to play as part of the German national team at the European Championship in 2004 , but he refused.
Coaching career
In November 2007, Martin Max, along with Daniel Hoffman, began coaching at the Grafing Club [8] . In 2010, he left the club.
