Academy of Sciences of Higher School of Ukraine

The Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine ( Ukrainian Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education) is an all-Ukrainian public organization uniting leading scientists and teachers of higher educational institutions of Ukraine who conduct basic and applied research in the field of natural , technical and humanities . The Academy was founded in 1992 . The basis occurred against the background of the democratization processes of Ukrainian science and was a response to the objective need to raise the status of university science, whose potential is poorly used by the existing state academies of sciences.

In its activities, the Academy cooperates with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine [1] , the State Committee for Scientific, Technological and Innovative Development, scientific institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and other organizations.

The Academy includes Western and Kharkov regional departments, as well as scientific departments:

The Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine publishes scientific journals: Scientific Horizons (translated from English - “Scientific Horizons”), Osvіta і upravlenіnnya (translated from Ukrainian. - “Education and Management”), Science Notes of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine’s Higher School (in translated from Ukrainian - “Scientific Notes of the Academy of Sciences of Higher School of Ukraine”).

International Scientific Conferences

The Academy, in cooperation with other scientific and educational organizations, regularly holds international scientific conferences. Among the conferences held in 2009-2010, such representative forums as: International conferences on decision-making under uncertainty (April, September, 2009; May, October, 2010) [2] ; IV Ukrainian Scientific Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors (2009) [3] ; IV International Scientific and Technical Conference “Sensor Electronics and Microsystem Technologies (2010)” [4] , All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference “System Analysis. Computer science. Management ”(2010) [5] , XII International Scientific and Technical Conference“ Non-metallic inclusions in casting alloys ”(2009), XII International Conference on the Physics of Thin Films and Nanostructures (2010) [6] and others.

Members

As of April 24, 2010, 307 Ukrainian and foreign scientists are members of the Academy . Among the members of the Academy are such world-famous scientists as academicians and corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Vitaliy Pavlovich Babak [7] ; Mikhail Bondarenko [8] ; Leonid Anatolievich Bulavin [9] , [10] ; Mikhail Ivanovich Gasik (foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences [11] , [12] , [13] ; Leonid Vasilievich Gubersky [14] , [15] ; Vladimir G. Litovchenko [16] , [17] , [18] ; Ivan Vasilievich Sergienko [19] ; Konstantin Merkuryevich Sytnik [20] , [21] ; Alexander Semenovich Chirkov , Head of the Department of Germanic Philology and Foreign Literature of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Foreign Philology, Zhytomyr State University named after Ivan Franko; heads of leading Ukrainian universities [22] [23] [ 24] [25] [26] [27] et al.

According to the charter of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, its members may be doctors of science working in higher educational institutions who have made a significant contribution to the development of science and its integration with education. Almost all academicians are the founders of their own scientific schools, have enriched science with results of paramount importance, they are actively working in the field of education. Almost all of them participate in the work of various specialized scientists and expert councils, editorial boards of well-known publications, and are marked by state and scientific awards.
