Biography

Born July 20, 1836 in the family of a priest of the Vladimir diocese.

In 1852 he graduated from the Vladimir Theological School . In 1857 he graduated from the Vladimir Theological Seminary , in 1861 the Kiev Theological Academy .

October 25, 1861 became a teacher of the Chernigov Theological Seminary . The following year he became a teacher at the Kiev Theological Seminary .

June 30, 1870 was awarded the degree of Master of Theology.

September 19, 1871 ordained priest to the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in Kiev, and determined by the legislator of the College of Pavel Galagan and the Kiev 1st gymnasium.

March 15, 1877 elevated to the rank of archpriest .

Since 1882 - the dean of the Kiev-Podolsk church .

He had three sons, including the theologian Vasily Instoprytsky . His wife died in 1876 .

On July 27, 1885, he was tonsured a monk, and on July 28, he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite .

On November 3, 1885, he was consecrated bishop of Chigirinsky , vicar of the Kiev diocese in the Sofia cathedral in Kiev.

From June 3, 1890 - Bishop of Tambov and Shatsk .

Being the Tambov Bishop, Bishop Jerome organized a whole network of help points, a network of canteens for the poor. During the cholera epidemic, he set up about 700 pharmacies.

From April 30, 1894 - Bishop of Lithuania and Vilna .

May 6, 1895 was elevated to the rank of archbishop .

In Vilnius, through the efforts of the lord, his own printing house was opened. Also, the high priest invested in the construction of the church-school in the name of St. Alexander Nevsky.

From February 27, 1898 - Archbishop of Kholmsky and Warsaw .

From June 16, 1905 he became the Archbishop of Warsaw and Privislinsky.

In Warsaw, in the Orthodox cemetery, he built in 1902-1905, at his own expense, the building of the Church of Sts. John of the Ladder . The temple was built by the architect Vladimir Nikolaevich Pokrovsky to perpetuate the late son of the bishop, Ivan Ilyich Ustkoplyarsky († August 8, 1902 in Pyatigorsk ). The temple was consecrated on October 15, 1905 and then the bishop's son was buried there.

Archbishop Jerome died two weeks later and was buried beside his son. Eulogius (Georgievsky) and Metropolitan of Warsaw Dionysius took part in his burial.
