Club career

Waterford United

Daryl was born March 15, 1983 in the Irish city of Waterford .

At the age of 17, Murphy moved to England , where he studied football for two years at the Luton Town Academy Club [3] . Not waiting for the “hatter” to offer a professional contract, Daryl was forced to return to his homeland - his first employer was the Waterford United team.

Murphy’s first debut with the Blues took place on September 19, 2002 - United's rival on that day was Kilkenny City . The fight ended with the score 3: 1 in favor of Waterford, Daryl scored one of the goals of his team. In his first season for the “blue” Murphy hit the rivals eight times, thereby helping United to take first place in the First League of Ireland that season, giving the right to play in the country's Top Division in the next football year.

In the 2004 season, the young striker scored 14 goals in the Premier League. This achievement brought him recognition of the “Young Player of the Year" according to the Football Association of Ireland [4] .

Sunderland

At the end of May 2005, Murphy signed a preliminary 2-year contract with the English Sunderland and officially became a black cat player on June 3 [5] . On October 1, Daryl first appeared on the field in the shirt of his new team in the Premier League match against West Ham United [6] .

In November, Murphy was given in a monthly lease to the Sheffield Wensday Club [7] . As part of the “owls” held four matches [8] .

On February 12, 2006, in an English Championship match, Daryl hit the Tottenham Hotspur goal, opening an account for his goals for Sunderland [9] .

In the 2006/07 season, Murphy became one of the main goals for the Black Cats, scoring 10 goals [8] . In the first three matches of that football year, his shots twice reached the goal - in fights with Coventry City [10] and Plymouth Argyle [11] . Then Daryl overtook the scoring “drought” - he could not score three and a half months. November 28, Murphy was finally able to hit the opponent’s goal - that day, “Sunderland” played with the “ Queens Park Rangers ” [12] . In the next two matches, against Norwich City [13] and Luton Town [14] , the striker also scored on the ball. In the final round of the 2006/07 English Championship, Murphy again upset his native club, “Luton Town” - Daryl scored “double”, and also assisted his partner Anthony Stokes . The fight ended in the defeat of the “hatter” - 5: 0 [15] .

On February 9, 2008, the Irishman scored a goal against Wigan Athletic . [16] Subsequently, this ball was recognized as the “Best Goal of February” in the English Premier League [17] .

On April 26, in a duel against Middlesbrough , Murphy came on as a substitute - in the 90th minute of the game, with a corner, Daryl dribbled into the penalty area defender Rechman Emanuel Pogatets , who cut the ball into his own goal. The match ended with the score 3: 2 in favor of Sunderland, and this victory allowed the “black cats” to retain a place in the Premier League for the next season [18] .

At the end of July 2008, the Irishman signed a new 5-year contract with Sunderland [19] .

Rent at Ipswich Town

On February 1, 2010, Sunderland's management gave the Irish striker a lease for the rest of the football year at Ipswich Town , which was led by a former Black Cat trainer, Roy Keane [20] .

In the first three matches for the new team, Murphy scored a goal, hitting the gate of Middlesbrough [21] , Queens Park Rangers [22] and Peterborough United [23] . On March 9, Daryl scored “double”, inflicting two productive blows in the game against Cardiff City [24] .

Celtic

On July 16, 2010, Murphy became a Scottish Celtic player, signing a 3-year contract with a club from Glasgow [25] [26] .

The Irishman first entered the field in a Celtic T-shirt on July 24, on this day his new club in a friendly match beat the English Lincoln City - 4: 1, forward scored one of the goals [27] . Murphy's debut in the first part of the Celtic in the official game took place on July 28, when, as part of the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League, the “white-green” competed with the Portuguese “ Braga ” [28] . On August 22, the striker, replacing Mark-Antoine Fortune in the match against Saint-Mirren in the 74th minute, first entered the field in the Scottish Premier League match [29] . Daryl scored his first goal for Celtic on August 29, realizing a penalty in a match with Motherwell . The goal turned out to be the only one in this meeting - “white-green” thanks to the exact blow Murphy won 1-0 [30] . Until the end of the football year, Murphy upset two more goalkeepers rivals, which were “ Kilmarnock ” [31] and “ Dundee United ” [32] .

Second and Third Rentals at Ipswich Town

On August 25, 2011, the Irishman was leased to the English Ipswich Town for the second time in his career. The agreement on Daryl between the “Celts” and “black cats” was concluded for a period of one season [33] . Two days later, Murphy spent his first match on his second coming to Portman Road , having spent all 90 minutes of the fight against Leeds United [34] .

On August 30, 2012, the Celts again loaned Daryl to the tractor drivers for one football year [35] .
