The flag is based on the coat of arms of Sol-Iletsk, according to the rules and relevant traditions of heraldry, and reflects historical, cultural, socio-economic, national and other local traditions.

Description

The first flag of the city was approved on December 26, 2007 by decision of the Council of Deputies of the municipality city settlement Sol-Iletsk city No. 209 [2] , the description of the flag read:

“A rectangular panel with an aspect ratio of 2: 3, consisting of red and blue horizontal stripes. The width of the red strip is three times the width of the blue. On the red strip near the flagpole are reproduced figures from the coat of arms of the municipality, the urban settlement of the city of Sol-Iletsk: a white fortress tower with open gates, in the opening of which is a yellow snake with azure eyes, entwined around a yellow bowl with salt. “There are nine touching white rhombs along the border of the red and blue stripes.”

On April 2, 2008, by decision of the Council of Deputies of the municipality, the urban settlement of the city of Sol-Iletsk No. 236 [1] , changes were made to the figure and description of the flag:

"A rectangular panel with a ratio of width to length 2: 3, reproducing the composition of the coat of arms of the city of Sol-Iletsk in red, blue, white and yellow."

Justification of Symbols

In the XVIII century, on the site of the present Sol-Iletsk , the Iletskaya Zagoda fortress was founded. The function of protecting the state’s border is symbolized by a white tower with battlements, borrowed from the coat of arms of Sol-Iletsk, approved by the executive committee of the city Council of People’s Deputies on April 23, 1974.

The bowl and the snake are traditionally considered attributes of the ancient Greek goddess of health Hygiea , daughter of the legendary ancestor of medicine Asclepius . On the flag of Sol-Iletsk, a bowl and a snake symbolize the healing properties of local lakes, their significance for the health of the region, and the resort potential of the city.

The red color of the flag corresponds to the color of the flag of the Orenburg region and symbolizes the city’s affiliation to the Orenburg region.

White rhombs symbolize salt crystals and overlap with rhombs in the unapproved emblem design for the city of Iletsk, compiled by B. Köhne in the middle of the 19th century.

The blue color symbolizes the freshwater rivers Ilek and Yelshanka , and the white rhombuses - the salt-saturated water of Lake Razval .
