History of the Ministry
In January 2005 , the Avoda party joined the Ariel Sharon coalition as part of a national unity government to support a unilateral disengagement plan . The head of the Water Shimon Peres demanded a post and. about. Prime Minister, but he was occupied by Ehud Olmert, and therefore a new ministry of the Deputy Prime Minister of Israel was created, which was later renamed the Ministry of Development of the Negev and Galilee .
Ministry structure
The main task of the ministry is to assist in the intensive development of the two largest areas of Israel - the Galilee in the north and the Negev in the south. Even the first Prime Minister of Israel, David Ben-Gurion, spoke about the need to settle the Negev desert [1] , which makes up 60% of the entire territory of Israel. For this purpose, the ministry has three departments:
- The Negev Development Authority, created in 1991 and managed by the former mayor of Beersheba, Jacob Turner. The aim of the management is to attract public and private investments aimed at improving the socio-economic situation of the region's residents.
- The Galilee Development Authority, created in 1993 and consisting of a council that includes the heads of the municipalities of Galilee, government representatives, industrial associations, etc.
- Interministerial Commission for the Development of the Negev and Galilee
