History
The Yekaterinburg Pond was built in 1723 at the same time as the foundation of the Yekaterinburg Plant and became the first reservoir on the Iset River. Until the middle of the 20th century , the Melkovka River with the tributary of the Osnovinka flowed into the City Pond. In the 21st century , only the Olkhovka River flows into the pond (in its northern part). Embankments of the pond were built in 1945 according to the project of the architect S.V. Dombrovsky .
Pond Geography
The mirror area is 0.7 km², length - 3.3 km, width - 0.3-0.4 km. The average depth is 3 m, the greatest depth is at the city dam (5.5 m); water level is 240.4 m above sea level. The pond stretches up the river; gradually expanding from the south.
Since the 18th century, the banks of the pond were built up with residential buildings, factories, and factories. On the left bank in the early 1930s, according to the project of architect V. D. Sokolov, the Dynamo sports complex was built, the main building of the complex resembles a ship. On the right bank of the pond is the Sverdlovsk State Academic Drama Theater (1990), business centers “President” and “ Demidov Plaza ”, a 23-story building of the administration of the Sverdlovsk Region (“White House”), October Square .
Until the 1960s, fish were found in the pond - pikes , ides , chebaki , dace trees and ruffs .
