Tanomura Tikuden ( Japanese 田 能 村 竹田 , July 14, 1777 , Bungo Province - October 20, 1835 , Osaka ) - Japanese artist.
Life and work
In his youth, Tanomura wanted to become a Confucian scholar. He studied painting, first under the guidance of a provincial artist, then in Edo , with the master of the naga school, Tani Buntyo . He also got acquainted with Tanomura's bunging style of the Nang school. After peasant unrest erupted in his native province, Tanomura returned home to appease the population. However, all his attempts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict crashed about the reluctance of local samurai to carry out minimal reforms to ease the plight of farmers. This failure of his led to the fact that the artist decides to devote himself completely to art.
Tanomura's artistic style is melancholy, busy watching birds and flowers; he prefers landscape painting. The master is also the author of books on the art of drawing in the style of the Nang school.
