Saint Felix was the thirty-third Bishop of Trier and the second bishop who bore this name. He was a zealous defender of Christianity against the Prussian Cypriot heresy , accusing its adherents of heresy and witchcraft . Sometimes on the activities of the saint in regard to the victories is regarded as the first manifestation of the inquisition .
The fact that death sentences were pronounced against Priscillians, despite the vigorous opposition of many Western bishops, including such as Martin of Tours and Ambrose of Milan , had bitter consequences for St. Felix. Saint Felix was charged with the fact that the convicts did not have enough opportunity to appeal the verdict.
At the Synod of Bishops in Turin , held in 398 , the bishops, who committed themselves to cease all contacts with Saint Felix, were again returned to communion with Rome. Thus, the Bishop of Trier was largely isolated.
Subsequently, he was removed from the pulpit and retired to the monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos and the martyrs of the Thebean Legion, built by him. He transferred the relics of St. Peacock the Phrygian , Bishop of Trier, to Trier, and erected a temple in his honor. Saint Felix died no earlier than 400, and was buried in this temple.
