Thrissur ( Malayal. തൃശ്ശൂര് ജില്ല ; Eng. Thrissur ) or Trichur ( Eng. Trichur ) is a county in the Indian state of Kerala . It was founded on July 1, 1949 . The administrative center is the city of Thrissur . The area of the district is 3032 km². According to the 2001 All-India Census, the district had a population of 2,975,440. The adult literacy rate was 92.3%, which is significantly higher than the average Indian level (59.5%). The proportion of urban population was 28.2%.
