Biography

He was born on December 6, 1788 in Sarralbe in the Moselle department in France , where his father carried out garrison service. In 1799, when he was eleven years old, Hydeck discovered a passion for drawing and his father sent him to an art school in Zweibrücken . Passing from 1801, studying at the Munich Cadet Corps , Haydek did not abandon painting and continued to improve in his studies. In 1805, after completing a course of science in the cadet corps, Gaydeck joined the Bavarian army as a lieutenant of artillery.

In 1806 and 1807, Haidek participated in a campaign to Prussia and Silesia . In the campaign of 1809 against Austria , while in the General Staff of Marshal Lefebvre , he fought at Abensberg , Ekmühl and Regensburg , distinguished himself when crossing the Inn at Wasserburg, and then accompanied the Bavarian troops to Tyrol twice.

From 1810 to 1813, he participated in the wars on the Iberian Peninsula on the side of France , fought at Torres Vedras, and was often used for important business trips. In 1813, he returned to Munich , and under Hanau fought for the first time against the French. On December 25, 1813, he took the French fort of Blamone by surprise, and after the Allies entered Paris, he was promoted to major. During the Congress of Vienna, Haydeck was part of the Bavarian delegation and participated in many meetings, and then he was a member of the commission to determine the border between Austria and Bavaria .

At the end of 1826, Hydek, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, with the permission of his king, went to Greece to form a regular army there. In Greece, he stayed until 1829, engaged in the distribution and distribution of the sums sent from the friends of Greece, the establishment of hospitals and military schools and other organizational matters. In 1827, Haidek accompanied Colonel Gordon on unsuccessful expeditions against Salamis and Athens .

In 1829, to recover his frustrated health, Hydek went to Rome . Before his departure there, the Greek National Congress presented him with a thank-you address and a patent for the rank of Greek general. The Bavarian king , who visited Rome in 1830, took Haidek with him to Munich, made him a major general and made a member of the regency in Greece . On February 6, 1833, Haidek was in the retinue of the Greek King Otton at his solemn entry into Navplia , but after the age of majority the king left Greece again.

In 1844, Haidek was given the baronial title and rank of lieutenant-general of the Bavarian service, after which he practically disappeared from the political scene and from 1850 was only a consultant to the military ministry of Bavaria.

Hydek died on February 21, 1861 in Munich .

Having devoted all his life to military service, Hydek also did not leave painting. His pastoral paintings from the life of a Bavarian village and landscapes he painted from nature in Greece are best known. Most of his works were acquired by the Bavarian royal family and are now in the collections of museums in Munich and Berlin.
