Sovkino (before the Laurent revolution) - the first cinema in Yekaterinburg .
In 1909 [1] (according to other sources in 1907 [2] ), the Frenchman Kai Laurent opened the first stationary cinema, Laurent, in Yekaterinburg in the house of P. I. Pevin, which after 1913 moved to its own premises, built by the Commercial Assembly on the opposite corner of the intersection of the Main and Ascension Avenues [3] . The architect is K. A. Polkov [4] .
It was a two-tier Art Nouveau building . It looked plain, but inside was cozy. And, of course, there was a stage where before the sessions the spectators were entertained by the orchestra [5] .
After the revolution, the cinema was privatized by Sovkino . Next to the building was the Commercial Assembly, one of the prestigious buildings of the pre-revolutionary years, after - the House of the October Revolution, since 1933 - the Musical Comedy Theater . In 1962, both buildings were built into a single building with a glass facade (architect P. D. Demintsev ) [6] .
In 2006, it merged with the Salyut multiplex [7] .
The cinema was closed on June 6, 2007 in connection with the decision of the leadership of the Musical Comedy Theater to expand the area of the theater [8] .
