Lohardaga ( Hindi लोहरदग्गा जिला ; English Lohardaga ) is a county in the Indian state of Jharkhand . It was founded in 1983 from part of the territory of Ranchi County. The administrative center is the city of Lohardaga . The area of the district is 1491 km². According to the 2001 All-India Census, the district had a population of 364,521. The adult literacy rate was 53.6%, which is below the average Indian level (59.5%). The share of urban population was 12.7%.
