History
The debut is named after the outstanding French chess player of the 18th century A.F. Filidor . In accordance with his doctrine of the pawn phalanxes, Filidor considered the move 2 ... Kc6 to be weak, since it impedes the advancement of the pawn from the c7-square. He himself connected the move 2 ... d6 with the promotion f7-f5. And although in the future this plan was questioned, however, other ways were found that allowed the opening to withstand the test of time. According to modern concepts, the protection of Philidor is considered a strong, albeit somewhat passive beginning. It is rare in modern tournament practice.

On the third move, it turned out that the grandmaster plays eighteen Spanish parties . In the remaining twelve blacks used the obsolete, but rather true defense of Philidor. If Ostap found out that he plays such sophisticated games and is faced with such a tried and tested defense, he would be extremely surprised. The fact is that the great combinator played chess for the second time in his life.
