Biography
Born in Argentina in the family of mining engineer Moses Isaakovich Kantor . In 1924, he returned to the USSR with his mother and older brothers (his father returned two years later). He served in the Baltic Fleet (1928-1930), after which he went to the merchant fleet for six years. In 1936 he was sent to Spain , participated in the civil war [2] , was a press attache of the Soviet consulate in Barcelona [3] [4] [5] , an adviser to Admiral N. G. Kuznetsov , and commanded a torpedo boat base. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner ( January 3, 1937 ) [6] .
After the hostilities ended, he was placed at the disposal of the Red Army intelligence agency, was sent to illegal work in Mexico with the legend of a Mexican businessman. He entered diplomatic work - he was the Honorary Consul of Mexico in Cleveland , then Deputy Consul in Berlin until 1941 . Established the functioning of the intelligence network "Turban" in the United States .
