Alto Paraguay

Alto Paraguay ( Spanish: Alto Paraguay ) - Department of Paraguay with the administrative center in the city of Fuerte Olympo . In 1992, the Chaco department was merged with Alto Paraguay, thereby recreating the territory of the Olimpo department, which existed until 1945.

Nature and National Parks

Alto Paraguay contains a large number of diverse natural resources, and that is why several national parks are located in this region, each with its own characteristics. Defenzores del Chaco is Paraguay's largest national park. Here is the hill of Cerro Leon, which is the highest point in the northern part of Paraguay. A dry climate is optimal for various types of cacti . Another park in this department, Rio Negor National Park, is located in an area with several small lakes, here is the habitat for most of the Alto Paraguayan fauna. Other national parks, Coronel Cabrera and Chovoreka , are located in arid areas.
