Story

Halloween is coming. Robbie and Alex move to grandfather for a couple of days. They do not want to go there because grandfather tells terrible stories. Too scary. However, parents force them. When they arrive, grandfather jokes at first, and then talks about the full moon fever.

This happened a month ago in Canada. Grandfather got lost and came across an old woman's house. She told him that there was a full moon fever. If you look at Halloween on the full moon, your body will become overgrown with hair. Grandfather looked at the full moon on Halloween and contracted it.

Robbie and Alex listen to the horror story. However, grandfather explained to them that this was just a scary story. The next day, they collect sweets on Halloween, including “Best” sweets, given to them by a woman whom they recently broke a window, and decide to look at the moon. The next day they discover that they are covered in fur.

Together with their grandfather, they go to a crazy doctor to recover, but he puts them in a cage. They run away and look at the full moon the next month, but nothing happens. Then they understand that it's all about sweets. The old woman gave them sweets not “Best” (best), but “Beast” (beast). They return to her and take the “Cure” candy (healing). Having accepted them, they begin to rapidly decrease in size and see that they are written "Curse" (curse)

Interesting Facts

  • Many points in this book are borrowed from Stein’s earlier story “Pumpkin Juice” (not published in Russia), such as turning people into animals because of sweets and the puns “Best” and “Beast”.
